Why Pagan Pride

"There is, within society at present, a group of people calling themselves Pagans, who feeling that there are many misunderstandings surrounding their beliefs and practices, wish this document to be made available to the public in order to promote a greater understanding of the basis of Pagan belief"

Why Pagan Pride? Well the first thing that comes to my mind is "Why Not Pagan Pride?" How many Pagans do you know? Chances are you see one everyday and never know it. We are teachers, lawyers, doctors, judges, and business people. But most importantly, we are husbands, mothers, brothers, and sisters; in the grand Wheel of Life…we are HUMANS. We have children that we worry about. Will Johnny pass his math test? I know growing up my Dad was hoping I would pass any test. We want our kids to do well in school. We also have bills just like you. If we don’t pay the Electric Bill our lights go off. No magic spell to keep the lights going with out "juice" from the electric company, however some Pagans have enough candles seeing would not be a problem.

"True Pagans hold all life sacred and regard the human species as caretakers of the planet; responsible for it's well being. They would not cause harm to any living thing or condone others doing so." What I am trying to say is we are all connected in the "Circle of Life" even though we see things a little differently. We are all family, and by seeing things that way; we have a responsibility to help those in need. This goes way beyond a once a year event. What do we do one a daily basis will dispel the myths that Pagans are evil Satanist and out to hurt and cause harm?

It is a matter of the heart. I have heard many times you are what you believe, and I used to think this way as well. But that is not really the truth. YOU ARE WHAT YOU DO... Faith and belief are both action words. You can say you believe all day and do nothing, well it is all for lunch. Faith and belief REQUIRE you to move. It may not be something like Pagan Pride Day, it may be something simple like volunteering at a local shelter, adopting a child for Yule, or maybe just being there to listen to others. Bottom line is we care for our community as a whole. What happens to the community happens to us…and to you. So it would be in our best interest to work together to build it stronger and not weaken it by misunderstanding.

"Article 18 of The United Nations. Declaration of Human Rights states:
EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF THOUGHT CONSCIENCE AND RELIGION. THIS RIGHT INCLUDES THE FREEDOM TO CHANGE RELIGION OR BELIEF AND FREEDOM EITHER ALONE OR IN COMPANY WITH OTHERS, IN PRIVATE OR IN PUBLIC TO MANIFEST RELIGION OR BELIEF IN TEACHING, PRACTICE, WORSHIP AND OBSERVANCE."

As a Pagan I will support your right to believe as you wish. Please be proud of who you are, as I am proud of who I am. I will join hand in hand with you as we pray together to "Spirit" for each other’s peace and well being. I will try to understand your thoughts, as I will share mine. I will NOT try to make you believe as I do, because it will go against your free will and what I believe may not be right for you. This is part of what I see as Pagan Pride. Pride in yourself as a child of The Lord and Lady, and a willingness to help their children no matter what names they go by, be it Christian, Muslim, etc. or those that have no religion at all.
