The History of KC's Pagan Pride Day
Pagan Pride Day started by a call from The Pagan Awareness League back in 1998 with the goal to have an event in every state in the Union. It has since overflowed in to Canada and a couple other countries. Those planning PPD in Kansas City have been involved since 1998, and it has grown each year. This is only a brief history of what has happened and what's been accomplished in the last 3 years.
In 1999 KC Pagan Pride Day gathered again, this time at Loose Park in Kansas City, Missouri. This year was a benefit for Hope House, a battered woman's shelter in Independence, Missouri. Funds and awareness were raised, resulting in a $650.00 cash donation and various clothes for Hope House. The second year of KC's PPD was noticeably larger, with more than 120 people in attendance, and support from the folks from CAW and Gaia Community. The year also offered more workshops (Asatru, Herbs, Why I am Pagan) than previously, along with a closing ritual to bring Unity. Hope House was very thankful as it took 2 or 3 trips to gather all the donations. This brings us to PPD2000; well what can I say. PPD2000 was more successful then PPD and PPD2 combined. We had 200+ people come to Lake Jacomo and share in the fun and networking, while raising funds for Wayside Waifs. We had a few changes this year as we had started a PPD Book of Shadows, and we also had Aries Rising hold a memorial for those who have gone on and had touched our lives in some manner. Our Speakers (Todd, Shanem, and She-Wolf) were great and very informative and Elvendrums defiantly rocked the house. Special thanks go out to The Rune and Heartland for their support the last 3 years. We raised $1500.00 for Wayside Waifs and $900.00 for The Witches Voice… Thank you to everyone for your help in making this the best PPD so far…. See ya Next Year If you have ideas or know of a speaker you would like to see at PPD please email KCPaganPrideDay@hotmail.com Raven Spirit |
